Ricoh and SOLUM bring expanded six-colour E-Paper Signage range to New Zealand retail

09 Sep 2026

Auckland, New Zealand, August 28, 2026 – Ricoh New Zealand partner SOLUM has announced an expanded range of six-colour Newton E-Paper Signage, giving New Zealand retailers greater flexibility to digitise traditional poster locations, simplify the management of in-store campaigns and create new retail media opportunities.

Building on the 32-inch display already available in market, the expanded range introduces 20-inch, 28-inch and 40-inch formats. Together, the broader line-up gives retailers more options for bringing dynamic promotional content to walls, aisles, end caps and other high-value areas throughout the store.

The announcement builds on the strategic partnership between Ricoh New Zealand and SOLUM, established to help local retailers modernise their stores through practical, scalable digital technologies. The partnership combines SOLUM’s smart retail technology with Ricoh New Zealand’s market experience, nationwide service capability and customer-focused delivery model.

Turning traditional poster locations into flexible digital media

Newton E-Paper Signage is designed to bridge the gap between printed posters and conventional digital signage. Its lightweight, ultra-low-power design gives retailers the flexibility of digitally managed content without requiring the permanent power connections and supporting infrastructure typically associated with traditional screens.

Content can be managed remotely, allowing retailers to replace the process of printing, distributing, installing and removing promotional posters across multiple locations. Campaigns can be updated quickly, scheduled for different times or events, tailored by store and rotated to support seasonal priorities.

The result is a more responsive approach to in-store communication. Retailers can maintain consistent messaging across their store networks while adapting content for local requirements, inventory levels, promotions or changing business priorities.

“New Zealand retailers are looking for practical ways to modernise their stores while improving efficiency and creating more value from their physical environments,” said Darren Elmore, Managing Director, Ricoh New Zealand. “Through our partnership with SOLUM, we can help retailers transform traditional poster locations into flexible digital touchpoints that are easier to manage, more responsive to customers and better aligned with the future of retail.”

More choice across the retail environment

The expanded six-colour range provides display sizes suited to a wider variety of retail applications. The technical range includes approximately 20.3-inch (A3), 28.6-inch (A2), 31.5-inch and 40.5-inch (A1) displays, with replaceable batteries and VESA mounting options available across the large-format models.

With formats aligned to commonly used poster sizes and standard VESA mounting, retailers can use existing creative content more easily and deploy displays across a variety of fixtures, including walls, end caps, shelves, ceiling mounts, easel stands and floor stands.

The displays also provide a nearly 180-degree viewing angle and full graphic E-Ink presentation across the large-format range.

“For our customers, the value is about more than replacing a printed poster with a digital display,” said Steve Middleton, Head of Sales, Ricoh New Zealand. “This expanded range gives retailers the flexibility to communicate consistently across multiple locations, respond faster to changing priorities and make better use of spaces that have traditionally been difficult or costly to digitise.”

Supporting new retail media opportunities

As retailers look for new ways to connect shoppers and brands at the point of purchase, in-store spaces are becoming increasingly valuable media assets. SOLUM’s Newton E-Paper Signage enables retailers to introduce time-based advertising, short-term campaigns, seasonal content and campaign testing across spaces that may previously have supported only static printed material.

This creates opportunities to improve campaign agility while offering brands greater visibility closer to the shelf and other important points in the customer journey.

“Shelf-edge marketing remains one of the most influential touchpoints in the customer journey, but until now retailers have had to choose between the simplicity of paper and the flexibility of digital,” said Paul Kyriakos, General Manager, SOLUM Oceania. “Newton E-Paper removes that compromise. Retailers can digitise promotional spaces that have traditionally been overlooked, giving brands greater visibility while unlocking entirely new retail media opportunities across the store.”

According to Paul Kyriakos, the wider opportunity extends across the whole retail environment.

“Every promotional space in a store has the potential to become a valuable customer engagement opportunity. Our new E-Paper offerings help retailers create more flexible in-store experiences while delivering greater value for shoppers and brands alike.”

A scalable pathway to smarter stores

The expanded range gives New Zealand retailers another practical pathway for modernising in-store communication without relying on large-scale conventional digital signage infrastructure.

By combining flexible placement, ultra-low-power displays and remotely managed content, Ricoh and SOLUM can help retailers reduce manual campaign activity, improve consistency across locations and respond more quickly to changing customer and business needs. The technology also supports a broader retail media strategy by turning more physical spaces into manageable promotional touchpoints.
