Challenging Season Ahead for V8 Team

Challenging Season Ahead for V8 Team
The 2004/05 summer is proving to be a challenging one for Ricoh-sponsored V8 driver Mark Pedersen. However, he is taking increased competition on the chin, with a win in the reverse grid 16 lap race at the Teretory track in Invercargill recently.

Mark began his winning race in a field of 35 cars and in fourth spot on the grid. From a rolling start he moved down the outside to jump three spots, and lead the race within the first 200 metres. While Mark thought he had left the rest of the field to battle it out behind him, a few ‘offs’ led the safety car to intervene, and the race was restarted. Mark pulled away for a second time, and won the race closely followed by his teammate, Wayne Huxford.

It is apparent that the pressure is on this year as most teams have increased their budgets, and it is said that any of the top ten cars are could win the Championship.

Races results from early in the season, while described as ‘forgettable’, have left Mark’s team in a top ten position. Races have taken place in a mix of weather conditions in front of spectator crowds upwards of 15,000.

“Our results have been improving and our team is in great shape for the next round,” says Mark’s manager, Murray Browne.
