Ricoh named in ‘Global 100’ sustainability list
February 13, 2012
Ricoh has been named on the ‘Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World’ for the eighth consecutive year, maintaining its record of being on the list every year since its inception in 2005.
The Global 100 is produced by influential Canadian ‘clean capital’ magazine Corporate Knights, and is based on comprehensive and detailed data –11 key performance indicators for business and the environment.
Ricoh New Zealand managing director Mike Pollok says the listing, which was announced at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, is further endorsement of Ricoh’s sustainability and environmental credentials.
“We are proud to be part of a global organization which has demonstrated a long-term and serious commitment to taking responsibility for its impact on the environment, providing excellent working conditions, and significant community support,” says Mike Pollok.
“Ricoh New Zealand is focused on initiatives for sustainable business growth which take care of our customers, our people and the environment.”
The Global 100 list recognizes Ricoh’s consistent efforts toward the sustainable design of its products, and the reduced energy consumption of its printers and multi-function devices.
In 2005, Ricoh set aggressive goals for reducing its environmental impact. By 2050, it aims to have reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 90 per cent from the level in 2000.
While Ricoh is cited as a sustainable corporation, it is also committed to helping other organizations improve their sustainability through the products and services it delivers, including its Managed Document Services (MDS) program me.
The Global 100 includes companies from 22 countries encompassing all sectors of the economy, with collective annual sales in excess of US$3.02 trillion, and 5,285,645 employees.
This latest achievement follows a series of recent international accolades:
• Recognised by Oekom Research as joint first place in global IT industry for sustainability
• Named one of the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute (for the third year running)
• Listed for the eighth consecutive year in 2011 in the FTSE4 Good Index.
